The Cornerstone - End Grain Cutting Board

Dimensions are 20” x 16” x 2”. This board marks a turning point in my work: the first time stepping into patterned end grain design. Inspired by a kind of alternating brickwork layout, each piece of walnut and maple was carefully arranged to create a repeating pattern that scratches the brain just right. In many ways, this board helped lay the foundation for everything that will come next. Every detail, from milling to final finish, was both a learning process and a commitment to craftsmanship. An end grain orientation provides a durable, knife-friendly, and bacteria-neutralizing surface as opposed to an edge grain or face grain board, where you may encounter more scratches, start to see wear and tear much sooner, and give food bacteria a chance to thrive and grow. The juice groove adds functionality, and the feet give it both stability and depth. Finished with a food-safe oil and wax blend, it’s ready to be used and enjoyed from day one.
