Crotch Wood Walnut And Epoxy Coffee Table- Hickory Base
The second I saw this slab at my wood supplier, I instantly had this project in mind. There were originally three crotches in the slab, but while laying out the top, we made the difficult decision to cut off the largest one. I don’t regret that decision at all. Removing the third crotch allowed us to create this interlocking design, with the black epoxy flowing naturally through the center like a winding river.
What made this slab truly special was that the crotches didn’t have the typical Y-shaped branching pattern. Instead, each one ended in a healed-over stub. I believe this is because the tree grew in an urban environment, where its branches were likely removed years earlier. As the tree healed, it created extraordinary feather figure and unique grain patterns that you rarely see in walnut. Those healed stubs became one of the most striking features of the piece.
The top measures 39”x39” the base is 17” high. The light hickory base complements the rich walnut and black epoxy beautifully without competing for attention. To keep the focus on the dramatic river and feather figure, the base is intentionally offset from the epoxy, creating a balanced design that lets the natural beauty of the wood take center stage.
The top and base will come disassembled to save on shipping cost. The hardware will be provided.
